Safety and Security

Safety and security

You’re in safe hands.

All staff who work with young or vulnerable people at Essex Outdoors are subject to enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks before employment with us, and undergo safeguarding training.  Our centres are inspected and approved by the Adventurous Activities Licensing Authority (AALA) and hold the Learning outside the classroom (LOtC) Quality Badge, ensuring we maintain the highest standards of safety and delivery in the industry.

Insurance

All of our centres are covered by Essex County Council’s third party liability insurance; any additional cover should be arranged by visiting schools and groups.

Storage and valuables

Centres can provide storage for luggage and belongings during your visit. We advise against bringing any valuables including mobile phones, tablets, or hand held games consoles, as these could be lost or damaged and are not covered by our insurance. Please be aware that children will not be able to access these devices whilst on activities.

Security and site access

Our sites operate entrance control systems and all visiting adults are required to wear our visitors ID badges whilst on site. To ensure your safety and security at all times, our residential centres have designated duty personnel available 24 hours while groups are in residence.

First Aid

Our team includes a high percentage of specialist paediatric and outdoor first aid trained staff. A duty first aider will always will be on hand throughout your visit to deal with any first aid requirements, however we recommend you also have an appropriate level of first aid cover within your own staff team.
